This music was composed specifically to be illustrated with photographs. It was commissioned by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and first performed on March 24, 1979 with photographer
Donald Sultner-Wells. Thirty two years later, Phil Norton showed his photographs on
March 12, 2011 with the Butler County Symphony Orchestra, the only other orchestra to perform it with photographs. This recording by Mike Neff of Butler, Pennsylvania is the first professional quality audio made of Knight's concertino.
