The first program of subsidies for farmers and artisans of route 138 markets

August 26, 2010 – Farmers’ Markets of the Route 138, those of Ste-Martine, Ormstown and Huntingdon are south-west of the southwest.

These are the markets of the Upper Saint Lawrence, one of the most beautiful regions of Quebec.

These three markets offer their customers a variety of local products of high quality from regional producers and artisans and a range of activities typical of our region.

In this day and age, many small markets settle in the Montérégie, close to Montreal, and attract producers from the Southwest who hope, indeed, to make good sales when they are not working in their fields and their farms.

In doing so, they become an important part of the appeal of these remote municipalities because everyone knows that for every dollar spent in a public market, $18 is spent in neighboring businesses.

Farmers’ markets in Ste-Martine, Ormstown and Huntingdon have put their efforts together to ensure that consumers visit our wonderful markets that are so representative of the country lifestyle in the Suroît.

To do this, the deputy for Huntingdon, Stéphane Billette, has generously offered its assistance in funding the first program of subsidies for farmers and artisans of route 138 markets.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The story of Mr. Goodstable...

Mr. Goodstable is tempted to sell his products at St. Pouet in the new market just opened. This is far as hell and it's expensive of gasoline to get to St. Pouet with a truck full of vegetables picked before dawn.
Is the game worth the candle?

Now he hears about the program of subsidies for farmers and artisans of route 138 markets!

He just has to install its booth at Huntingdon on Saturday,  Ste-Martine on Sunday and Ormstown on Thursday (3 markets in a row) to get a cash reward of $25! Mr. Goodstable therefore decided that from August 28 to September 16, he would not do it out of the Upper St. Lawrence! He can sleep a little later in the morning and save big.
